The Incredible Power Of Entrainment
In the 1600s a clock maker made an incredible discovery. One day Christian Huygens noticed that all of his pendulum clocks swung in sync with one another.
Huygens set them apart that evening as he closed up shop. When he came back the next day he found them swinging in sync once again. He learned that the largest clock pulled the rest of the clocks into sync with itself, a process science calls entrainment.
The same phenomena can be found in nature as massive schools of fish simultaneously turn in the same direction to avoid a predator; or as flocks of birds can be seen twisting and moving as if they were one organism.
Mothers and their babies also go through entrainment. When sitting together the infant matches both his mother’s heartbeat and breathing. (Brain scans of both mother and child can be placed side by side and the registered brainwaves provide an exact match.)
This holds tremendous implications for all people, because each person is born with a pendulum similar to the clocks, the heart. The heart, beating 100,000 times per day, is closely tied to our thoughts and emotions.
From this is born the science of heart breathing.
What researchers found is that when a person is focused on their breathing and the beating of their heart, their brainwaves will match their heart waves. When this happens a person is fully present in the moment, is anxiety free, and experiencing perfect peace. (The heart and brain literally entrain with one another and go in sync. The amazing discover of heart breathing is that this process can be controlled.)
Here is the technique to make this happen; begin by putting your hand on your heart and try feel your heartbeat. As you feel the beat close your eyes and begin to focus on your breathing, taking deep breaths in and out. Next, think about and feel a memory or a moment for which you are grateful. (Try to come up with three special memories.)
The entire process takes about two minutes.
When you slow down and simply feel the power of your heart and breath, you will experience a renewed sense of peace and joy. That is the power of entrainment, and you are in complete control!
