Steve Jobs’ Immortal Words About Wonder

Steve Jobs’ sister Mona Simpson shared about his final moving moments in an interview with the New York Times. She related that just before he took his final breath in a roomful of family, he alone saw something beautiful the rest could not see and said, “Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow.” Jobs was known to live with a sense of wonder.

It was Helen Keller who said, “Life is a grand adventure or nothing.” Day to day we have the choice to notice something new, to see magic in the moment. But as Sherlock Holmes shared in The Hound of the Baskervilles, “The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes.”

A personal hero of mine, Michael Flatley, has shown what is possible when a person follows their dreams. Incredibly, he set a world record by tap dancing an astounding 28 taps in one second. Larry King told him that was impossible. Flatley just smiled and replied, you have to believe.

His feat is simply astonishing! But did you know that a hummingbird beats its wings some 70 times per second? It is beyond imagination. But if you find that hard to believe, the mosquito is simply out of this world; its wings beat upwards of 600 times per second!

So what inspires you, and what could inspire you? Simply go for it. You can listen to Bach or take a graduate course in agriculture; learn to dance or play polo. With variety being one of the top needs of the human personality, your mind is designed to be saturated with new experiences and knowledge.

Happiness is directly related to growth, be it intellectual, spiritual or emotional. As Tony Robbins says, boredom is depression.

So why don’t more people go for it? They are afraid of what other people might think, they are afraid to be criticized.

But as Napoleon Hill once stated, “Never complain about your problems, because ninety-five percent of the people don’t care, and the other five percent are glad they happened to you.” We could also add, ninety-five percent are too busy worrying about what other people think about them, so they are not thinking about anyone else.

So don’t let imagined fears hold you back. Do something fun, do something unique, do something that you have only talked about up until now. Especially in these challenging times.

As Richard Bandler says, “When would now be a good time?” Then sit back and let life bring you, ‘Wow, oh wow.’
